Hi Polly/everyone,
I agree with davebee0730. Lucozade is the fastest I have tried. If you are crashing quickly then this will sort you out in a minute or two. If your daighter-in-law is young then Lucozade is a good option in Orange or Apple flavours!
For slower hypos, milk/cookies is a good idea to control the Hypo back to normal and toast for slow-releasing energy to balance the equation.
Glucose tablets are also good for hypos and easy to carry around, but they are chalky-tasting so not so pleasant to digest.
I find that the most effective and fastest remedy is Lucozade (or its lower-cost equivalent available from the cheaper supermarkets)
This should be followed by eating a slice of toast or a sandwich to provide longer-lasting carbohydrate and thus prevent a hypo relapse.
This is an old chestnut. Prepare anything that you would serve to anyone.People with diabetes are encouraged to eat a normal healthy meal avoiding anything really fatty.
The best thing by far is Glucose either tablet or better still liquid. Drinking milk and having biscuits is ok but because the body has to convert the sugar in the milk and biscuits to glucose it take much longer to recover a normal blood level.
