Me and My Pump!

I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 1 when I was 10, and 8 years on I have been in hospital twice (not including diagnosis) and felt I have not been able to do a lot of things my friends have been doing.

When I was 17 my diabetic nurse talked about getting the pump, this was after the second stay in hospital. I was struggling to keep my levels in single digits and often had levels in the high teens. After struggling to convince Doctors that getting the pump was right for me and the only way I could manage my condition I finally got it. I have now had the pump 8 months and i can honestly say it has changed my life.

My last Hb1c was 9 – this has never been in single digits so I have been over the moon. I feel I can now live my life again. I have lots more energy and I now want to go out with friends, we go horse riding most weekends and even go and have a drink on a Friday night!

If anyone is thinking about the pump I would say go for it, I always thought I could not live with having diabetes – but now I can.
